I love my new baby brother!

Isabella's Update

I'm a big sister now!! Sweet Baby James was born on Thursday, September 23, and I got to meet and hold him just a few hours after he was born. I've already talked to him about all the cool things I'm going to teach him how to do: talk, walk, use the potty, sing, and run. I can't wait! I guess right now I'll just have to keep helping Mommy when she needs things for James. I can run a lot faster than she can, anyway.

Mommy here now. On the day we were supposed to check out of the hospital (Saturday), the (absolutely wonderful) nurses noticed that James' respiratory rate was higher than it should have been. Since he was a bit gurgly when he was born and was suddenly having more difficulty breathing, they ran several tests (EKG, chest x-ray and blood tests) to check out all the options. Turns out he had a slight bilateral pneumothorax (a little tiny line of air outside the lungs on each side). They don't know how it happened, but it's frequently something that happens spontaneously. It also typically resolves on it's own (when it's not a larger problem), but they put him in oxygen to help it get reabsorbed more quickly. By Sunday, the x-rays showed no signs of pneumonia, that the air on right side was completely gone, and the left side was better. EKG and blood tests were normal. Yippee!! They finally let us come home on Tuesday morning. (I was discharged on Saturday, but they had "boarder" rooms where I got to stay, thankfully).

Now that everyone's home, healthy and happy, we're starting to get back into the daily routines. He's been a wonderful baby. He eats and sleeps well, and it usually quite reasonable. He sure lets you know when you tick him off though. (I wonder if this is a Libra trait, because it sounds just like me!) :) Hopefully I haven't just jinxed things by bragging on him. All in all, he's a wonderful boy.
